Summer Bridge Courses

Courses offered by the Summer Bridge 2025 program provide you the opportunity to get ahead. Instructors look forward to getting to know you in their courses to support your strengths and confidence in learning. In these courses, students learn how to cultivate their personal voice, explore unique ways of thinking, and become confident in themselves as writers and learners.

All Summer Bridge students may earn up to 4 credits by registering for 1 course. Each class provides multiple opportunities:

  • Engagement with faculty and peers
    • Live lectures, class discussions, and Supplemental Instruction (peer-led study groups)
    • Student hours with instructors and/or teaching assistants
  • Getting ahead in your major or college general education requirements

Summer Bridge students are expected to take their courses with the letter grade option.

2025 Course Options

These courses are SUBJECT TO CHANGE depending on course/faculty availability.

Students that participate in Summer Bridge will have the opportunity to participate in either EDS 25 or AWP 10 as a primary course – one that explores the purpose and current issues in higher education:

AWP 10: Language and Learning in the American Academy (4 units)

This course will introduce critical thinking, reading, writing, speaking, and listening practices appropriate to college-level work. It will prepare students who may not be familiar with the learning expectations of American universities to fully join the academic conversation.

AWP 10  fulfills UCSD's DEI requirement. It is not a substitute for the ELWR requirement. For more info, please check out the Virtual Advising Center.

EDS 25: American Higher Education and the Collegiate Experience (4 units)

This course is designed to help students think critically about multicultural issues in higher education, as well as the purpose of higher education within the larger context of society. Topics include American higher education history, organization, policy, curricula, and access.

This course fulfills UCSD's DEI requirement.
